Go beyond the classics like the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz and explore these locally-loved spots in San Francisco.

It’s true — driving across the Golden Gate bridge, learning about the history of Alcatraz, seeing the old hippy shops in the Haight— it’s all amazing. But, there’s so so much more to San Francisco than just these classic attractions. Curious to discover more of the city and some locally-loved favorites?

Check out our top 9 off-the-beaten-path gems to discover in San Francisco, or save the whole list on Spot.

Point Bonita Lighthouse

Just a short drive north of San Francisco, Point Bonita is one of our favorite off-the-beaten-path day trips. The lighthouse is open for limited hours, but if you miss it, you’ll still be treated to some great exploring and beautiful coastal views of the Bay.

Song Tea & Ceramics

As soon as you step into the beautifully-designed Song Tea & Ceramics, you’ll feel at ease. From the soothing decor to the carefully-prepared teas, this is the perfect spot to relax on a dreary, foggy San Francisco day. Open for walk-in tastings.

The Mill

From the unbelievably delicious Josey Baker Bread to the coffee, the Mill has got it figured out. We love stopping here for a quick lunch or to get some work done (although, there’s no Wifi!).

b. patisserie

Ah, b. patisserie. Created by pastry chef Belinda Leong and baker Michel Sua, b. patisserie is one of San Francisco’s premier spots for mouthwatering croissants and artful pastries. Our favorite? The banana and chocolate croissant — get one to stay (warmed up) and one to go. You won’t regret it.

Lands End Trail

The Lands End Trail has got to be one of San Francisco’s very best hikes. Wander along the coast and through the park, and you’ll come across everything from beautiful beaches to wildlife to the famous Sutro Baths.

Saint Frank Coffee

San Francisco takes coffee pretty seriously, so while you’re here we recommend sampling a few coffees around town to see what’s on offer. One of our top picks is Saint Frank Coffee — they roast their own beans out of their Mission Street roastery, but we love stopping by their Polk Street cafe to enjoy an espresso outdoors in the sun.

Heath Ceramics

This creative studio, located in the heart of the Mission District, is part a production space and part a beautiful shop. Wander through Heath Ceramics and admire the beautifully-crafted ceramics. Afterwards, stop and grab a croissant at the nearby Tartine Manufactory.

Fort Funston

There are plenty of hikes around San Francisco, but Fort Funston is one of our very favorites. Take a walk through sandy bluffs, and admire the epic coastal views as you hike along the shore. In the southwestern corner of the city, this is a short drive and perfect for a day hike.

Sightglass Coffee

And, finally, one of our other top picks for coffee in San Francisco! Sightglass has a few locations dotted across the city, but their Mission District spot is our favorite. The space is beautiful and airy, and the espresso drinks are always delicious.
